I don't blame you for being skeptical. You have every right to be skeptical. For the last 73 years there has been all this silly hype going around about buying homes for a dollar and other such nonsense that only one person in 1.6 million can qualify for -- and then only if you are lucky enough get there first on top of that.
Tax sales are not that kind of deal; Land bargains you can buy at 80% off are out there for everyone.
I too was skeptical at first. I admit it readily! I myself had to struggle hard to believe that 80% discount concept too. But I found it was true, again and again, repeatedly. YES! These opportunities are out there for everyone.
I can assure you from personal experience there really is property out there on the auction block selling regularly with an 80% discount! Not all of them are selling that low of course, but a whole great big majority of them very definitely are starting at that big a discount.

Virtually all properties at a tax sale have a potentially wide markup.
Tax sales are held for no other reason than to get the tax money due the state (or county) to support schools, etc. It's simple: The opening bids you find there are real and they are consistently rock bottom low!
Quite often no one at the auction will even raise your bid.
The prices for land at these tax sales are so low as to almost be giving it away.
"Yes," you are probably thinking, and still just a little skeptical. "But is this property actually worth anything? Can you sell what you buy?"
Some of it isn't. Some of it will not fit your needs. But, you don't have to buy that kind of property because some of it packs an incredible value. Here's one example from real life: Garry A. paid $800 for ten acres at one of the tax sale auctions Lin went to. (That's a mere $80 per acre, by the way.)

Please don't get the wrong idea from this example.
It is very unlikely you will ever get rich with tax sales. But if all you have is a Little money -- and you have even Less nerve than you have money -- then tax sales IS the place to start LEARNING the ground rules of real estate in the only way most of us can learn -- by actual practice.
Everything you learn in the property-getting-process will be seared into your consciousness because you have ACTUALLY DONE IT. You'll get an education for little or nothing. And then you can put up a sign, and sell that property to double or triple your money and go on to something better. Then again, there is always the chance of discovering a treasure chest like the example mentioned above.
The fact of the matter is: In many parts of the country with tax sales you CAN be a land owner for just forty dollars. Other parts of the country are higher and thank goodness for that if you are in one of those areas because that means ALL the property there has a VERY HIGH intrinsic value. It will therefore be a whole lot easier to sell!
Think about it, Just a few dollars may be all that is keeping you from being a property owner. You can buy enough property to get out there and walk your land, stomp on it, show it to your friends, throw a party. Yeah, I know. I said that already, but don't you believe it bears repeating?
